‘World Leaders Respect You For Your Great Works In Nigeria’ – Ban Ki-Moon Tells Buhari

The United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, has told President Muhammadu Buhari that he is highly respected by world leaders, including himself because of the positive image he has given Nigeria.
Ban Ki-Moon was speaking during a bilateral meeting with the Nigerian president at the sidelines of the 71st UN General Assembly in New York where he congratulated Buhari on his anti-corruption war.
He said the UN recognized the achievements of the Buhari administration against Boko Haram, urging that human rights be upheld always, to prevent a repeat of the scenario being witnessed in Syria.
Ban Ki-moon also thanked the Nigerian leader for his commitment to issues on climate change, adding that the government should “own the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” for the good of its citizens.
Speaking earlier during the meeting, President Buhari said the Nigerian government was willing to bend over backwards, to get the Chibok girls released from captivity.

Buhari Ahmadu Tanko the Commander of Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) in charge of Kakuri community, Kaduna South Local Government Area of Kaduna state, has been murdered.

The Nation reports that Tanko was reportedly killed by some yet to be identified assailants.

The Kaduna state police command spokesperson, ASP Aliyu Usman confirmed the incident.

He said, the late Tanko, 27 was murdered by hoodlums while attempting to stop them from stealing from the premises of defunct Kaduna Textile Limited located in his catchment area.

ASP Usman said the incident occurred at about 3:26 hours of Monday 29th August 2016, making it difficult for the police to make immediate arrest of any suspect in connection with the killing.

He however said investigation into the matter has already been launched and the culprits will soon be fished out to face the full wrath of the law.

Effort to speak with family of the deceased could not be established as the time of filing this report.

But member of JTF in Kakuri, who would not want his name in print vowed, never to be deterred by the gruesome murder of their leader in their efforts to make the community safer, urging the state government to train and equip them instead of attempting to scrap the activities of local vigilante in the State as we read in the media.

What happened cannot stop us from patrolling our area especially at night. And we will bring the killers of Buhari to justice no matter how long it will take us,” he said.

Two female thieves caught and disgraced for scamming a businessman.

Two female thieves caught and disgraced for scamming a businessman.

Two thieves received serious beating at the hands of a very angry mob who gathered to teach them a lesson after they had tried to scam a businessman.

The Kenyan women identified as Wincate Mukami and Faith Wangui, had reportedly been moving around town scamming unsuspecting people under the guise of selling SIM cards.

They drew the attention of other passersby who rushed to the scene when a businessman screamed, as he found out they had tried to scam him of KSh17,000 (N52,000), in the Embu town of Kenya.

According to the Embu Deputy Police boss Ziro Arome, the crowd’s punishment would have taken a turn for the worst if the police did not intervene when they did.

He said: “Had the police not arrived on time, maybe they would have been harmed more. They had visited a businessman’s shop and tricked him to give them the money promising to demonstrate something. They have been conning people under the guise of selling SIM cards.”

The police returned their clothes to the women who were already stripped while they were beaten, allowing them cover their shame.

What a disgrace for them

Nigerian man predicts what could force Buhari out of power

Eniga S. Akihonbhin, a Nigerian man who lives in Italy and is concerned about country’s problems, predicts disturbing future for President Muhammadu Buhari.
The man speaking through his Twitter account has said that All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should start looking for alternative to Buhari as the drawing board is showing red line.

Akihonbhin further stated that what will happen to Nigeria’s economy in the next few months could force the president out of power.

More than one year since the inauguration there is increasing disappointment that President Muhammadu Buhari has not delivered on his lofty promises.

However, some loyal supporters of the incumbent president are becoming frustrated and rethinking the roles they played in assisting Buhari to power amid increasingly agonizing economic and political crises rocking the nation.

The supporters believe President Buhari had so far failed to show that he has the wherewithal, and even the political will, to resolve the multifarious challenges Nigeria is currently facing.

iPhone 6s Disgraces Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Performance Test: iPhone 6s Disgraces Samsung Galaxy Note 7

Apple vs Samsung is the epitome of the never-ending Android vs iOS war. With Samsung releasing the Galaxy Note 7, someone has already pitched it against Apple’s phone from last year. Despite all the improvements Samsung brings to the table with the Galaxy Note 7, the result of the test is quite surprising. The iPhone 6 schools Samsung Galaxy Note 7 in performance.
The guys over at PhoneBuff pit Apple iPhone 6s against Samsung Galaxy s7 and the former wins with quite a huge margin. While it takes the iPhone 6s just 1 minute and 21 seconds to launch a number of 14 applications which includes Angry Birds, Asphalt 8, Lapse, Adobe Photoshop Mix and more, it takes the Galaxy Note 7 two minutes and four seconds to complete exactly the same task.
The second lap and final lap of the test takes the iPhone 6s one minute and 51 seconds, while Samsung Galaxy Note 7 lags behind, completing the test at 2 minutes and 50 seconds.
Just for the record, the iPhone is a year old device running the latest iOS 9.3.4 with just 2GB RAM, Apple A9 dual-core processor and a 1334 x 750 display. The newer Samsung Galaxy Note 7 runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, sports 4GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 820 SoC and comes with a 2k display.
This is just another proof that Samsung still needs to put a lot of work into optimizing its software. A fluid operating system that performs great with minimal hardware power is one big advantage Apple has, and the upcoming iPhone 7 will improve upon the performance of the iPhone 6s.

We Wont Return $390,000 Donation – Mikel Insists

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF ) and the Rio Olympic bronze winning team led by Chelsea star , Mikel Obi are heading a collision course over the $ 390 , 000 donated to them by a Japanese fan.
On Saturday , the NFF issued a statement quoting president Amaju Pinnick as saying it was mischievous to say they planned to use the donation from the Japanese plastic surgeon Katsuya Takasu to offset mounting debts.
Rather, they insisted that they were merely conducting an integrity test on the donation and the donor.
The Japanese fan issued two Citibank cheques – $ 200 , 000 in favour of coach Samson Siasia and $ 190 , 000 in favour of Mikel .
“ We have resolved that no matter what , we will not surrender this cash to the NFF , the team was quoted to have told africanfootball .com.
“ Mikel has insisted all of us will get our share of the money . That we should not mind what the people in the NFF are saying.
“ He will make available this cash when he comes for next month ’ s AFCON qualifier against Tanzania in Uyo .”
A team meeting has already resolved that both players and officials will receive equal amount of the cash with Mikel himself agreeing to give part of his own share for the chief coach (Siasia ) to get more than the rest of the squad .
It was further gathered that the sharing formula agreed was a flat rate for the 22 players (18 accredited players and four alternate players ) and 10 officials .
Japanese plastic surgeon , Takasu had travel from Tokyo to Brazil to watch Nigeria beat Honduras 3 - 2 to win the bronze on Saturday .
“ I had travelled from Tokyo prepared to reward them anyway , and to watch them win the bronze inside the stadium was very fulfilling, ” he said.
“ This team showed resilience and fought the hardest to achieve success , despite all their problems – some people would have given up but they didn’ t.”
“ In everything we must always let people understand that they are appreciated and not just in football but generally in life , ” said Takasu .

From Solo Cup to an asteroid: NASA’s newest space mission

The OSIRIS-REx spacecraft sits on its workstand August 20, 2016 with its launch fairing (R background) in a servicing building at Kennedy Space Center, Florida.
The OSIRIS-REx is scheduled to launch aboard an Atlas 5 rocket September 8, 2016 on its mission to the asteroid Bennu. / AFP PHOTO / Bruce Weaver
The idea for a device that could unveil the origins of life in our solar system began with a Solo cup.
Next month, an invention inspired by that plastic, disposable beverage cup will launch into space aboard the United States’ first robotic mission aimed at scooping up 4.5 billion-year-old dust from an asteroid.
The $800 million NASA mission is called OSIRIS-REx, which stands for Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security-Regolith Explorer.
The unmanned spacecraft will travel to an asteroid near Earth called Bennu to collect space dust that may reveal how the materials necessary for life — such as carbon and ice — made their way to our planet.
“We seek samples that date back to the very dawn of our solar system,” said Dante Lauretta, OSIRIS-REx principal investigator with the University of Arizona, Tucson.
Launching September 8 atop an Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, the 4,600 pound (2,087 kilogram) sport utility vehicle-sized spaceship is set to embark on a multiyear mission, returning its bounty of space dirt in 2023.
– Scatter dust or collect it? –
The idea is not to land on the asteroid, but approach closely and “high-five” it for several seconds to gather some debris that can be studied more closely back on Earth.
The problem is that in zero gravity, such a device could just scatter dust instead of collecting it.
So, years ago, Lockheed Martin engineer Jim Harris began practicing with a reverse-vacuum concept in his driveway.
He placed a plastic Solo cup — pierced with some strategically placed holes — with the rim facing down on the ground.
Then he used an air compressor to blow air through the cup’s base.
The dirt it spewed out through the holes was collected in an external container.
Harris first called his creation Muucav, “vacuum” spelled backwards. But the final name is TAGSAM, an acronym for the Touch and Go Sample Acquisition Mechanism.
“Over the past 10 years, it has come a long way from a Solo cup in the driveway to what you see now,” said Rich Kuhns, OSIRIS-REx program manager with Lockheed Martin Space Systems in Denver.
– Follow-on to Japan mission –
TAGSAM aims to return far more material than a similar mission by the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency that launched in 2003.
The Hayabusa mission encountered some difficulties, and even crash-landed into the surface of its target, but managed to return just under a milligram of material from the asteroid Itokawa in 2010.
NASA’s spacecraft is designed to collect at least 60 grams (2.1 ounces), but could get much more. Tests have shown it picks up an average of 300 grams.
The sample will not be taken until July 2020, allowing the spacecraft time to closely study the asteroid so scientists can pick the most promising region, says Gordon Johnston, an OSIRIS-REx program executive at NASA headquarters.
“We will approach Bennu, map it, orbit it, study it and pick the safest and most scientifically interesting place to pick a sample from before going in and attempting the sample,” he told reporters.
“Three quarters of the sample will be set aside for future researchers — for the science questions we haven’t figured out to even ask yet.”
NASA has also promised four percent of the sample to its major partner in the effort, Canada, and another half-percent to Japan.
Although the Japanese mission proved that asteroid sampling and return can be done, NASA based much of the OSIRIS-REx’s design on a previous US mission launched in 1999, called Stardust, which returned cosmic material from a distant comet’s tail.
“Stardust told us a lot about comets, which form way in the outer part of the solar system,” Lauretta said.
“OSIRIS-Rex is bringing back samples that are closer to home and are probably the likely candidates that delivered these key, prebiotic compounds to our Earth.”
– The right-sized asteroid –
NASA picked Bennu out of 500,000 known asteroids in the solar system because it’s the right size, easy enough to visit, and contains carbon-rich dust from billions of years ago, says Christina Richey, OSIRIS-REx deputy program scientist at NASA.
“We are talking about the start of the formation of our solar system,” she said. “Maybe the precursors to life on Earth or elsewhere.”
The space rock is taller than the Eiffel Tower — some 500 yards (meters) in diameter — and passes by Earth every six years, orbiting the sun at roughly the same distance as the Earth.
“Bennu is currently the best understood asteroid not yet visited by a spacecraft,” Richey said.

Vieira: Pogba just needs to be himself

Forget trying to emulate Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba should just try to be himself, says former Arsenal star Patrick Vieira.
Pogba became the most expensive player of all-time when he joined Manchester United in an £89million deal from Italian champions Juventus earlier this month.
The France international arrived at Old Trafford on the back of weeks of transfer speculation, joining high-profile signings in Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the off-season.
While Vieira - who was captain of Arsenal's 'Invincibles' last decade - says the hefty price tag will put pressure on Pogba to succeed, he believes his countryman just needs to be himself.
"I'm a massive fan of Pogba," Vieira, who now coaches New York City in the MLS, told the Mirror. "I think he's a fantastic player, no doubt about it.
"But at the same time I believe the Premier League is different, and there will be a lot of pressure on his shoulders because of the price tag and expectation.
"He will have to find the right balance because if he thinks he will win games by himself that will be a massive mistake for him. If he tries to do something that he can't do that will be a massive mistake as well.
"I read something interesting from [United manager Jose] Mourinho that he will win as much as Messi or Ronaldo.
"If people are expecting him to score 40 goals a season, that will not be the case, but he can make a difference with his physical and technical ability.
"He needs to find the right balance and do what he can best and not try to play as somebody else."
Vieira also believes the 23-year-old Pogba can continue to learn from the quality of players around him at United.
"There are some good players around, strong characters around him, who can help him to perform at his best," he added.
"Ibrahimovic, the way I know him, will be a really good person to help him to find the way and perform the way he can.
"He will have no choice any way but to listen to him! He will help him because he's a fantastic team-mate."

Bale fires Real Madrid to opening win

Madrid's Welsh forward Gareth Bale (C) vies with Real Sociedad's defender Joseba Zaldua (R) during the Spanish league football match Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid CF at the Anoeta stadium in San Sebastian on August 21, 2016. ANDER GILLENEA / AFP
A Gareth Bale brace and a Marco Asensio lob helped Real Madrid make light work of Real Sociedad, running out 3-0 winners at Anoeta in their opening game of the season in La Liga.
Bale was the only member of the renowned ‘BBC’ forward line who was fit enough to play in Sunday’s game, as Zinedine Zidane’s team travelled to San Sebastian in the midst of an injury crisis, with five regular starters unable to make the squad.
As well as star forwards Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, Keylor Navas and Pepe were also ruled out, but it didn’t stop Madrid earning a convincing win at a notoriously tricky venue.
Bale was picked despite having appeared in just one friendly in pre-season, but the Welshman got Madrid off to a flying start, leaping into the air to powerfully nod home Dani Carvajal’s tempting cross in only the second minute.
Kiko Casilla had to be quick off his line at the other end after a short back-pass by Raphael Varane, hacking the ball to safety under pressure.
Alvaro Morata nearly scored his first goal since returning to Real Madrid but, after a clever dribble, his strike was deflected behind for a corner.
A Toni Kroos effort met the same fate, with goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli quick to get down to tip the German’s drilled strike behind.
Real Sociedad had a good opportunity to level on the half-hour mark, but former Madrid man Asier Illarramendi opted to pass to Juanmi instead of shooting when well placed and the ball didn’t reach his team-mate.out
It was an end-to-end affair, with Morata denied again by Rulli, while youngster Asensio, picked ahead of James Rodriguez and Isco, continued to bewilder defenders with his quick feet on his first start in La Liga for the European champions.
The forward scored Madrid’s second goal in the 40th minute with an effortless lob after he was sent through on Rulli’s goal by Varane’s pass, scooping the ball over the stopper with ease.
Morata was seeing a lot of the ball in the second half but was foiled at every turn, being booked for diving in the area before his shot was saved and Kroos cracked the rebound against Rulli’s crossbar.
The goalkeeper was called into action to tip a Mateo Kovacic piledriver wide as Madrid continued to turn the screw, although despite their dominance they could not stretch their lead until Bale ran through, rounded Rulli and squeezed the ball home with the last kick of the game.
Atletico Madrid entertain promoted Alaves in the late game on Sunday, while Sporting Gijon earlier beat Athletic Bilbao 2-1.
Champions Barcelona opened their campaign in style on Saturday by beating Betis 6-2 with Luis Suarez scoring a hat-trick and Lionel Messi netting twice.
Sevilla beat Espanyol 6-4 in an incredible game with Luciano Vietto scoring twice for the hosts and fellow summer signings Pablo Sarabia, Franco Vazquez, Wissam Ben Yedder and Hiroshi Kiyotake also on target.

Illegal oil well uncovered within Winners church premises

– NSCDC has uncovered another illegal oil well in Lagos state

– The illegal oil well was discovered within the premises of Winners satellite church

– The resident pastor, Oladela Paul, the church had sent a formal complain to the NNPC but no response

An illegal oil well has been uncovered within the premises of Winners satellite church, Iyana-Odo, Igando-Ikotun local council development area, Lagos state.

The oil well was discovered by the Nigerian army and officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Vanguard reports.

According to the resident pastor, Oladela Paul, the church had sent a formal complain to Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) when they noticed the well within the church premise was filled with Petroleum Motor Spirit.

He lamented that the church was yet to get any response from the NNPC, months after writing the corporation for solution.
The pastor said the well has become a source of harassment to the church and our members.

Paul said aside the harassment, the church was afraid of the impending hazard which it cannot determine.

The NSCDC Lagos commandant, Tajudeen Balogun, who led the operation, confirmed the discovery.

He said the visit to the church was to evaluate the extent of the spillage and take necessary actions.

This came barely two weeks after the police and other security agencies shut about 10 houses on Ibadan and Abeokuta streets in Ilasamaja axis of the state, over discovery of shallow oil wells built by landlords to illegally scoop diesel from pipeline.

Next Nexus devices appear to near

Documents published by the US Federal Communications Commission all but confirm that Google’s next set of Nexus devices are in the pipeline, with its manufacturer partner this time being HTC.

In a filing made to the regulator, as part of the approvals process to sell devices, HTC said documents it provided are drafts, and “the final version will be made publically available on Google’s website (http://support.google.com/nexus) at the time the product is commercially released”.

But the actual documents themselves were not available – submission can be made to the FCC under confidentiality clauses.

According to reports, two devices are in the works, codenamed Marlin and Sailfish (unrelated to Jolla’s platform of the same name). They will be launched to support the introduction of the Android Nougat release, although LG is also set to get out of the gate early with this.

The main difference is screen size, with 5-inch and 5.5-inch versions. Other mooted specifications include Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor (possibly Snapdragon 821), with 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 128GB of storage.

The news is not a great surprise, as HTC has previously been mooted (and is Google’s current Nexus partner), and indeed has offered earlier devices in the line (including the original Nexus One). A few months ago the struggling Taiwanese vendor played down reports it had signed a multi-year agreement with Google for Nexus devices.

Last year, Google introduced two Nexus smartphones at the same time (pictured), as it looked to appeal to buyers who prefer different sized screens – similar to Apple’s strategy with the iPhone 6 line. Previously, the Nexus screen size had been creeping up, making it less appealing to users who prefer smaller devices.

But the decision to go with HTC for both seems to have displaced Huawei, which was a new addition to the roster last year, and LG, which was behind several Nexus products. Interestingly, a Huawei executive has previously suggested it was still in the frame for Nexus.

Earlier this year, Google chief Sundar Pichai said the company “could be a lot more opinionated” on the design of Nexus devices, with the ability to add new features on top.

Nigerian league club shows interest in Mario Balotelli

– Warri Wolves FC have indicated interest in signing ‘Super Mario’

– The club via Twitter invited the Italian striker to join the team

– The Seasiders are currently 17th on the NPFL table

Nigerian Professional Football League club Warri Wolves FC have indicated interest in Italian striker Mario Balotelli.
The Seasiders who are currently 17th on the current NPFL standings are desperate to avoid relegation, but their searchlight for a striker has beamed on ‘Super Mario’.

In a tweet via the official handle of the club, the Warri based team invited the 26-year-old player to join the squad.

“Hello Mario Balotelli we have 10 games to play before our season ends. You can come train with us and play for us,” @Warri_Wolves_FC tweeted.
However, Italian legend Andrea Pirlo has advised Balotelli to stop wasting his talent. The 37-year-old has expressed sadness at the player who is on loan at AC Milan, saying the clock is ticking for him to save his career.

“He frustrates me, but I do have so much affection for Mario,” the Milan and Juventus legend was quoted by Mirror (UK).

“He is infectious to be around. When I used to see him walk into training for Italy, he would have this big smile on his face – and I would just burst out laughing – and start wondering what is he thinking, what is he up to?

“Mario should not just be a character the media write about for good stories. We shouldn’t forget what a special player he is.

“I have played with some of the best strikers, and I can tell you Mario has all the attributes to  one of the best strikers in the world.
“By now I thought that is where he would be, that is where he should be. He has no more time to waste.”
the club so as to reach his world class potential.

Warri Wolves will continue their battle to avoid relegation when they face MFM FC of Lagos at the Agege stadium on Wednesday, August 17.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Review

Lenovo has yet again built another superb laptop that not only looks sleek and stylish, but also packs in a plethora of powerful tech under its hood. When taking a closer look at the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon, we found that the latest Ultrabook features a 14-inch WQHD (2560 x 1440) 10-point touch-enabled display, which allows for easier navigation around the preloaded version of Windows 10 Pro. Along with the touchscreen, the latest Ultrabook from Lenovo also comes equipped with touch-pad navigation as well as a keyboard-based pointing stick for easier navigation and control.
While navigation has been made easier and more streamlined, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is also a powerhouse under the hood. The device features a long-lasting battery, which offers up to 10 hours of use on a single charge (Usage may vary depending on applications used).
During the review process, we managed to squeeze around 9 hours of continues use out of it while doing day-to-day tasks such as video editing, photo editing, and general internet browsing. While 9 hours of charge may be enough to get a day’s work done, the device also comes standard with a RapidCharge technology. Once plugged into a charge point, RapidCharge technology will get the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon’s battery life back up to 80 percent in just under an hour.
With 9 hours battery life to keep productivity going, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon also features a speedy Samsung PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive (SSD), which is accompanied by 8GB RAM, a powerful 2.40GHz Intel Core i7 5500 U CPU, and Intel HD Graphics. Additionally, the device also features a Qualcomm Snapdragon X7 LTE modem with 4G LTE Advanced Carrier Aggregation support for up to 300 Mbps download speeds.
Moving away from the internal components, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is a stunner when it comes to build quality and visual appeal. Constructed with magnesium and carbon fiber reinforced plastics, the device has been made to withstand dust, vibration, scratches, and although not tested within this review, it can withstand – according to Lenovo – radiation, water, humidity, solar radiation, and fungus.
When taking a closer look at the outer shell of the device we found that it is 17.7 mm thin and features 2x USB 3.0 ports, a Mini Display Port and a HDMI port, a Headphone/Mic 3.5mm jack, FPR, and an Ethernet Extension Connection. As the device is an Ultrabook, is does not feature a DVD/Blu-Ray drive. Additionally, the device lacks an SD Card slot; however, external devices can be connected in order to extend upon the functionality needed by the user.
When opening the lid of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon consumers will immediately notice the devices 14-inch WQHD display features an anti-glare screen as well as a backlit keyboard, which is essential in today’s busy business world… especially during meetings, conferences, and seminars.
Apart from being visually appealing, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is also an extremely portable device. Weighing in at 1.2 Kilograms, the device is light enough to travel with either on international business trips, or back and forth from the office. Along with the 9-10 hour battery life, this makes the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon the perfect business partner for the world traveler, or the office warrior.
Conclusion:
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is power device that comes with mostly all the bells and whistles. The touchscreen is a pleasure to use and the overall build quality is absolutely superb. To add to the features, the Samsung PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive, 8GB RAM, and the powerful 2.40GHz Intel Core i7 5500 U CPU make the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon one speedy Ultrabook.
While the device has excelled in most areas it does, however, lack an ethernet port and SD Card reader. To add to this the device could have included a few more USB slots, which could ultimately host external devices such as Blu-Ray or DVD Drives.
Overall, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is a lightweight powerhouse, which ultimately makes it the perfect business partner for the world traveler… or the office warrior.

Trader Arrested In Ogun For Naming Pet Dog ‘Buhari ’

A 30 - year - old trader has been arrested by the police in Ogun state for naming his pet dog ‘ Buhari.’
The trader, Joe Fortemose Chinakwe, of No 10 , Omikunle Street , Sango- Ota, Ogun State , was reportedly arrested last weekend , after one of his neighbours of Northern extraction complained bitterly that he named his dog after his father, Alhaji Buhari .
Vanguard learned that the complainant reported the case at Sango Police Station, last Saturday , after which the trader was arrested and detained . However , it was gathered that efforts by the police to recover the dog , which they intended using as evidence failed following a clever move by the suspect.
The trader, said to be trading in female wears at a popular market in Sango, allegedly directed his friends secretly to kill the dog and possibly eat the meat in order to avoid being implicated .
It was gathered that consistent appeals by his friends and relations for the police to grant him bail failed as the complainant and his kinsmen reportedly threatened to kill the trader if he was released on bail .
The case, however , took a different dimension two days later when Chinakwe’ s relatives went to Sango police station to further plead for his bail only to be informed that the case file and the suspect have been transferred to Ogun State Police Command headquarters at Eleweran.
A relation to the suspect, who simply identified himself as Chiedozie, told Vanguard that his brother was being persecuted for no just cause and expressed fears that he may either be poisoned inside police cell or thrown into jail .
Chiedozie said : “ Chinakwe is a lover of dogs and he names them after things that tickle him. He bought this dog a year ago and named it Buhari.
Unfortunately, some Northerners , who dominate the vicinity where he resides misconstrued his intention and connived to take him up .
The complainant then claimed it was derogatory because his father answers Buhari.”
Police sources, however , told Vanguard that the actions of the suspect “ were very provocative .”
The source said : “ he not only named the dog Buhari but boldly wrote it on the body of both sides of the dog and was seen parading the neighbourhood dominated by Northerners with it .”
As at press time, relations to the suspect were still making frantic efforts to effect his bail while his accusers are insisting that he must be prosecuted.
When contacted around 8 pm yesterday , the acting Police spokesman in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, ASP, said he was still trying to get the Divisional Police Officer in -charge of Sango for details.
Oyeyemi later called, stating that : “ I have made enquiries . The man bought a dog and inscribed Buhari on both sides of its body. One Mallam lodged a complaint and when our men got there, we found out that it was true.
You know such thing can cause serious breach of the peace and ethnic or religious unrest . We are charging him to court for conduct likely to cause a breach of peace .”
Continuing , he said: “ He was arrested last Saturday and we are taking him to court later today (Tuesday ) or tomorrow morning (today ). You know an average Northerner will feel bad over such a thing.
It can cause serious ethnic crisis or religious confrontation because when you are relegating such a name to a certain person , you are indirectly insulting him .”
When asked about the whereabouts of the dog that will be used as evidence against the suspect, the police spokesman said: “ The dog cannot follow anybody except the owner. We will use him as our evidence because he did not deny it. ”

The return of Abuja Carnival

The annual Abuja Carnival is coming back after two years in the doldrums. Shaibu Husseini , a member of the newly constituted committee explains why in this chat with Edozie Udeze
The annual Abuja Carnival was begun many years ago to encourage the promotion of cultural and tourism potentials in the Federal Capital territory. The event which hitherto had grown into an enviable festival, attracting participants from far and near, did not happen last year. When it was time for it to be celebrated two years ago, the federal government said it did not have enough resources to run it.  What therefore happened in the last two years, left many close watchers of events in the culture sector wondering whether the Abuja Carnival would ever see the light of day again.
But all hope is not lost.  In the past few weeks, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has been making frantic efforts to bring back the event.  In order to achieve this aim, he has consulted far and wide and has therefore set up different committees to help bring back this glorious festival that helps to ignite the federal capital territory November every year. A member of one of the committees and a senior staff of the National Troupe of Nigeria (NTN), Shaibu Husseini, explained the nitty gritty of the new face Abuja Carnival and what the nation stands to gain from it.
He said, “Oh, well, I am happy to inform that there is an effort to revive the Abuja Carnival to get it going again. The Minister has just constituted a carnival management committee and I am privileged to be a member of the committee. Good enough, Abiodun Abe in returning as the Artistic Director of the carnival. There are other members too, even though it has not been formally inaugurated by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed. After a press conference by the minister, shortly, the committee will formally take off,” Husseini reiterated.
With the minister as the chairman of the planning committee of the festival, it becomes imperative for the people concerned to look inwards to give the nation a benefitting carnival come November this year. To this end, Husseini said, “Yes, it was to hold last year, unfortunately, however, the minister was appointed barely a week before the carnival. Therefore he felt the arrangement in place was not appropriate to have a successful outing. This was why he put it forward so as to have it more properly organized and done. And this year, he felt the carnival is the flagship of the ministry and so it has to happen. He thinks it is time for us to properly re-institutionalize the carnival. If this is done, people will continue to look forward to every November to have a colourful festival. This is why he began on time for early arrangement which involves a lot of stakeholders.
With series of meetings and consultations with stakeholders in the culture and tourism sectors of the economy, it is possible to have a huge carnival that will yield huge resources for the country.  “Artistes and other people involved are fully engaged in this regard. We want to ensure that this year’s will fly so as to bring back the glory of this all-important event. I want to say that I am excited about the prospects of the carnival on two levels. The first level is that this is the first time it will happen under a Ministry of Information and Culture. Before now, it happened under the Culture and Tourism ministry. So then, we relied on the information arm of the Federal Ministry of Information for publicity for the event. This proved very ineffective and difficult.  Today, the story is different and therefore publicity will no longer be an issue. Secondly, we now have a Minister who is interested in packaging an event that will boast tourism development in the country. He has been so consistent so far in order to ensure that the carnival itself outlives the committee members and so forth.”
At the moment, Abuja Carnival has lost its grip on stakeholders and state contingents have not been active in the last few years.  Most foreigners who had grown to love the festival and were even sending delegates to be a part of it have been left in the dark. Now that the festival is about to kick off again, how will their interest be revived? A lot of knotty issues have to be sorted out to drive the tourism sector in a way to have the carnival become meaningful once more. To Husseini, this is a situation the present crop of people in the committee are prepared to shoulder. What is paramount at the moment is that the carnival will happen in a big way and all the people; states and foreign participants, will come back fully.
He said; “Already, the issue of funding may not be a problem.  As part of the structures put in place by the minister, he has also put in place a sponsorship committee to handle the issue of funding. That committee has been there all along. But now, it will have more bite. He has also volunteered to lead the drive himself in order to make it more effective.  In addition, the government will also provide its own funding. In terms of the foreign participants and so on, with the aid of publicity that will be done and with the involvement of the relevant people in the ministry, and those in-charge of foreign relations, we are going to have a bigger boost this year. Also the relevant sector of the Foreign Affairs Ministry will be involved in this regard.”
As at now, the committee in-charge of contacts and mobilization has gone to town, reaching out to the necessary people and agencies. This is to redraw attention to the importance of the festival as a point of unity for the nation. This is why there are going to be series of workshops and meetings, to streamline issues and come out with watertight schedules that will make for an excellent outing. “This is why the minister doesn’t want this to be a solely government affair. He wants us therefore to have a true national carnival that is located in Abuja. This is a point of cohesion for the people and for the nation. This is to give us the necessary platform to showcase the best of our cultures and tourism potentials.  Don’t forget that this year’s theme is: the creative industries; a pivot to national development.”
But in a situation where the economy is in recession and most states cannot pay salaries, is it possible for them to be truly involved in this matter this year? For Husseini, this is no issue. “You see, you know, recession does not usually affect culture and cultural matters. Culture will still live even in a depressed economy. But what I know is that with the kind of enthusiasm the minister has shown, it will be very easy to mobilize the states, to have the ear of the governors and see how they’ll encourage their states’ artistes to be there.”
In order to see how culture and other properties of traditional heritages can help to diversify the economy, the Abuja Carnival can then be said to be in order. Now that there is absolute peace in Abuja and its environs, this is the most poignant time to bring back the event. It is to continue to cement issues of love and togetherness where culture plays the most relevant role for civil orderliness. “It is to show also that Nigeria is a happy place where they can spend their holidays. These cultural products will drive tourism. And while the Abuja Carnival is on, you’ll see plenty of these products on display. There, varieties of costumes, masquerades, durbar, boat regatta and so on will be displayed.”
Security will also be provided along all the carnival routes. The routes will also be decorated with different colours to synchronise with the mood of the people and the theme of the event. Usually, the festival happens for three days during the last week of November and Husseini is saying that this timing may not be altered this year.

BOURNEMOUTH 1-3 MANCHESTER UNITED: ROONEY & IBRAHIMOVIC SCORE IN COMFORTABLE WIN

Jose Mourinho got off to the perfect start as the Red Devils boss as his side picked up three points in his first Premier League game in charge

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored on his Premier League debut as Jose Mourinho's Manchester United beat Bournemouth 3-1 at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday.
The former Sweden captain, who netted the winner on his first competitive outing in the Community Shield, drilled in a superb low shot from distance to add to goals from Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney.
United, who also handed a first Premier League start to Eric Bailly, had found it difficult to gain control on a ground where they suffered a 2-1 defeat last season before surprise starter Mata pounced on an error from Simon Francis.
Artur Boruc twice made good saves to keep United at bay, but Rooney doubled the visitors' lead just before the hour mark as he steered Anthony Martial's miscued volley into the corner.
Ibrahimovic blasted in United's third to set Mourinho on course for the ideal start to his first league campaign at Old Trafford, although Adam Smith's fine 69th-minute strike gave Bournemouth some hope of a comeback.
But United saw out the closing stages to move top of the table, as Ibrahimovic – who has now scored on his debut in the Champions League, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and the Premier League – celebrated in front of the visiting fans.
United, without suspended world-record signing Paul Pogba, struggled for any real control to begin with as Bournemouth pressed and kept possession well, though Callum Wilson fired the home side's best early opening high and wide.
Anthony Martial flashed a shot wide of Artur Boruc's left-hand post, before the Bournemouth goalkeeper saved low from Rooney's first-time effort after United's first good passage of play involving Ander Herrera and Antonio Valencia.
Bournemouth continued to look the more likely, but it was United who broke the deadlock five minutes before the break thanks to some calamitous defending from the home side.
Francis' poor backpass was pounced on by Mata and though his tame finish was blocked by Boruc, the ball rebounded off the legs of Francis and allowed United's No.8 a simple tap-in five minutes before half-time.
Boruc denied United a second shortly after the break, standing up well to block Rooney's effort after Ibrahimovic had lofted the ball over the top of the Bournemouth defence.
But the Pole could do nothing to prevent the deficit increasing just before the hour, when Martial's volley from 12 yards was scuffed towards
Rooney and the captain turned a header beyond the reach of Boruc's right hand.
With the Vitality Stadium suddenly at a low ebb, Ibrahimovic sent the travelling supporters into raptures, arrowing a fine effort into Boruc's bottom-right corner from 25 yards just a few moments after he had been thwarted from a free-kick.
Bournemouth seized a lifeline with their first effort on target as Smith
finished high past De Gea from 12 yards after Lewis Grabban's clever reverse pass into the area.
De Gea was forced into a couple of excellent stoppage-time saves to maintain United's two-goal cushion as Mourinho's men made an early statement of intent.

Police have arrested a 21-year-old man, Ethan A. Buckley for allegedly stabbing his father during church service on Sunday, August 14, in Kentucky.

Bowling Green police, Kentucky
According to Bowling Green police, they disclosed that the son was fortunately restrained by the congregation and security workers who immediately took him into custody after stabbing his father at Hillvue Heights Baptist Church, before any more damage could be done.
An eye witness Ashlyn Rice further revealed that, she was standing at the Back of the church when she heard different voices from the front. Ashlyn added that, the incident occurred around 9:30am towards the end of the service.

Buckley’s father was immediately rushed to the hospital as his son is yet to reveal why he stabbed his father. Buckley has also been charged with assault and lodged at the Warren County regional jail.
Wonders shall never end!

The issue of domestic violence seems to be on rise in Kenya, as a 23-year-old woman from Kajiado, Kenya was allegedly beaten and stripped naked by her stepsons.

Jane carrying her daugther
According to video, the woman is currently nursing the wounds she suffered during the brutal beating allegedly orchestrated by her 85-year-old husband. Jane Sankeri added that, her husband ordered his sons to beat her for returning home late from a river.
According to the area Assistant Chief and the woman herself, the suspects who were her husband’s sons who were all older than her, they beat her up and stripped her naked in front of her young daughter. After the beating, she picked up her child and ran straight to the home of the Assistant Chief who took a pity on the mother and child and gave them a place to sleep that night.

A grassroots non-governmental organization known as ‘Networking for women’ has promised to help her seek justice against her husband and his sons.

Veteran actress, Hilda Dokubo, is known for her soft and usually sorrowful roles in movies.

She was recently interviewed by The Punch and she spoke extensively about her lover for acting, teaching, holding a political post, her childhood, marriage and more. When asked how the beautiful woman gives back to the society, she said:
”I do this through trainings. I have 50 kids who are not my biological children. I have three biological children, but I’ve adopted 50 others. These children need support and I can give them that. What I do is pay their school fees, buy them clothes and give them food. I also help them find homes.”

On why she reconciled with her husband after a long period of separation, the actress said:
”Everything in life has stages and time. If I say I’m a Christian and love God, then I should be able to live a life that Christ would be proud of. It doesn’t matter who is right or wrong in a relationship. We did it for ourselves, our children, others, but most importantly for God.”

NIGERIA U23 - DENMARK U23: DREAM TEAM FACE TRICKY QUARTERFINAL CLASH

Samson Siasia's side hopes of progress comes under serious threat with injury to Etebo, which means they need a good replacement against the Danish's charges
Nigeria will face Denmark U23 in the quarter final of the Rio Olympics men's football event in Salvador without Oghenekaro Etebo.

The Dream Team VI advanced to the knockout stages finishing atop Group B with back-to-back wins against Japan and Sweden before they fell 2-0 to Colombia in their last preliminary game.

The African U23 kings who missed out of the 2012 Olympic seek to reach the semifinal for the third time, but must subdue the Europeans hoping for a last four spot for the first time in 96 years.

The match at Fonte Nova Arena is the second between the teams in the space of two months, Emil Larsen netted three times ensured Denmark thumped Nigeria 6-2 in the Suwon tournament in South Korea in June.

“When you make too many changes, it won't work the way you expected,” says Siasia.

“Going into the knockout stage, that's a different ball game. If you lose, you go home, so all those mistakes we have been making mostly in the backline have to be corrected.

“We didn't do a good job on the Colombian forwards. We really have to work harder on our defending.

"In the first half, we had a couple of good chances and Etebo had a very good one that he should have scored. But one good thing about him is that he always put himself in good positions.

“He didn't score today; that's football. Hopefully, in the next game, we can convert our chances and defend better."

Manchester United transfer news: Jose Mourinho asks Youri Tielemans to join him at Old Trafford

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is looking at the possibility of signing Anderlecht midfielder Youri Tielemans, the player's former teammate Lukasz Plonowski has revealed. The 19-year-old has been in impressive form for the Belgium club and is one of the brightest prospects in Europe.
The teenager came up through the ranks of Anderlecht's youth system and made his way into the first team in 2013. His form saw him receive a call from former Belgium manager Marc Wilmots for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Wales last year. However, he did not feature for his national side.

Tielemans has been voted as the Belgian young professional footballer of the year on two occasions in 2014 and 2015. Plonowski, who played with the midfielder at Anderlecht's youth teams, has revealed that Mourinho is looking to bring Tielemans to Old Trafford.

"Youri called me up recently and said: Lukasz, do you know who called me? Mourinho. He asked if how I'd take the possibility to move to Manchester United," Plonowski told the Polish publication Weszlo.
Tielemans played under Besnik Hasi from 2014 to 2016. The latter remains confident the midfielder has a bright future ahead of him and admitted the Belgian was put under a lot of pressure to get the best out of him.

"Players of 18 who play almost all the time do not grow on trees. It's to be expected for someone of his age," Hasik explained, as quoted by Goal.

"We've put him under a lot of pressure. Even if he's already a champion, who has played in a cup final and who has Champions League experience, it's only the start of his career."

The 20-time English champions have already completed four signings this summer, which includes a world-record signing of Paul Pogba. Should Tielemans move to United, he will be Mourinho's fifth signing of the current transfer window.

John Obi Mikel has just had an absolutely brilliant pop at Manchester United’s world record signing on Twitter…

John Obi Mikel has been a Chelsea player for over a decade. Let that one sink in. Although the midfielder has never really been a stand out player in the Chelsea squad, and rarely been a guaranteed starter, the Nigerian has managed to somehow remain in the squad while countless others of a greater ability and profile have come and gone.

In fact, if one was to look at the Blues’ 2006 squad, the only player who remains at the Bridge aside from Mikel, is John Terry – the club captain who has essentially been a stalwart in the Chelsea backline since 2002.

However the enigma that is John Obi Mikel has managed to survive in the Blues squad for such a lengthy period of time we’ll never really know but, the matter of fact is, he’s still there and today, he has reminded everyone of that with an absolute beauty.

As we all know only too well at this point, Paul Pogba recently completed a world record breaking transfer to Manchester United with many suggesting that the young Frenchman is destined to go on to one day, claim the Ballon d’Or.

Whether that comes to pass or not remains to be seen. However, for now, he’ll have to just get his head down and prepare himself to face the almighty talent that is John Obi Mikel.

Jose Mourinho set for Manchester United clear-out after Paul Pogba signing

Paul Pogba: The numbers behind the world's most expensive football playerIBTimes UK
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Manchester United are set for a summer clear-out following the world record acquisition of Paul Pogba. The Portuguese boss claims that he is happy with his current team but admitted some players will need to leave either on loan or on permanent transfers to make way for the new signings.

Mourinho has strengthened all the key positions in his squad with the additions of Pogba, Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a bid to put the club in contention for the Premier League after Louis van Gaal's side ended last season finishing a disappointing fifth. The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss suggests that the Reds' transfer business is over after Pogba's acquisition. Some members of the current squad will however be shown the exit in order to start the new season with a balanced team.

Bastian Schweinsteiger, Adnan Januzaj, Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young and Memphis Depay, Juan Mata, Daley Blind or Marcos Rojo have been tipped as potential casualties in Mourinho's reshuffle in recent days. The boss refuses to name any of them but did confirm some will leave on loan and others will be sold before the end of the transfer window on 31 May.

"I'm really happy [with my squad]," he told MUTV. "It's the first time I've worked with such a number of players because I'm used to working with 20 plus the keepers, and we have in the squad 23 plus the keepers – and even so we had to make decisions and let some players go on loan, and try to sell others."

Mourinho predicts that some players will be ruled out of his match-day squad in the early part of the season but pointed out that the squad's strength in-depth will help him cope with the busy fixtures, especially once the Europa League and the League Cup starts.

Schweinsteiger is one of the players expected to leave United before the end of the transfer window

"But this group of 23 is a great group and I think in this moment – and I told them this – there is a little bit of frustration for the ones that I have not selected. They work hard to be in the match and they aren't, and this is going to happen in the next two or three weeks because we have just one Premier League match.

"But, in September, the League Cup starts, the Europa League starts, we start playing three matches a week and then everybody is involved and the squad is good. The empathy between the guys is really good too, so I'm happy with the squad."

Mourinho has reiterated during the summer transfer window that he wanted to have his squad finalised before the start of the Premier League. This way the manager has thanked the club officials for sealing the Pogba deal just days before their opener against Bournemouth on 14 August.

"I think the club was fantastic," he added. "I couldn't be happier with the way we did our market because we got four players that we really believe in and we thought about the profile – the tactical profile, the physical profile, the personality.

"And we got them all before the start of the Premier League, when the transfer window only closes at the end of the month and it becomes normal – almost a tradition, that people delay and delay and delay. We did it before the end of the month, which I think is tremendous work by my board."

Oly Appoint Bento

Greek giants Olympiacos have appointed Paulo Bento as coach after sacking Victor Sanchez, the Super League champions said on Thursday.
The 47-year-old former Portugal manager, who led his country from 2010 to 2014, became the team’s third coach in just two months after fellow countryman Marco Silva and Spaniard Sanchez.
“Olympiacos would like to announce the start of its co-operation with the Portuguese technician Paulo Bento,” Olympiakos said in a statement.
Contract details were not disclosed but local media reported that Bento had signed a two-year deal.

WBA accept Chester bid from Villa

West Brom have accepted a bid from Aston Villa for defender James Chester.
The Wales international will now hold talks with relegated Villa and could move in the next few days, Press Association Sport understands.
Villa have lost their opening two games this season - including an embarrassing 3-1 EFL Cup defeat to Luton on Wednesday - and boss Roberto Di Matteo confirmed he needs defensive reinforcements.
Ciaran Clark joined Newcastle for £5million and Joleon Lescott is unlikely to have a future under Di Matteo following relegation from the Premier League last season.

Former CIA Officers Share 6 Ways to Tell If Someone's Lying

Former CIA officers Philip Houston, Michael Floyd, and Susan Carnicero distilled their professional deception-detecting skills into a fascinating book, Spy the Lie, now available in paperback. In the excerpt below, the authors reveal six telltale signs someone is lying.
1. Behavioral pause or delay
You ask a person a question and you initially get nothing. After a delay, he begins to respond. How long does a delay have to be before it’s meaningful, before you would consider it a deceptive indicator? Well, it depends.
Try this exercise on a friend: Ask her the question, “On this date seven years ago, what were you doing that day?” The person will invariably pause before responding, because it’s not a question that naturally evokes an immediate response—the person has to think about it, and likely still won’t be able to offer a meaningful response. Now ask her, “On this date seven years ago, did you rob a gas station?” If your friend pauses before responding, you probably need to choose your friends more carefully. Much more likely, there will be no pause—your friend will immediately respond, “No!” or “Of course not!” It’s a simple exercise, but it drives home the point that the delay needs to be considered in the context of whether it’s appropriate for the question.

DARPA's Cyber Grand Challenge Aims To Beat Viruses for Good

The culmination of the world’s first tournament of automated computer security systems is set to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 4. The Cyber Grand Challenge (CGC) will be hosted by DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) in the Paris Hotel, where seven security teams will put their automated systems to the test for a chance to win almost $4 million in prizes.
“Today's approach to cybersecurity depends on computer security experts: experts identify new flaws and threats and remediate them by hand. This process can take over a year from first detection to the deployment of a solution, by which time critical systems may have already been breached,” according to information on the event Web site.

The goal of the CGC is to promote the automation of cyber defense. The event will field the first generation of machines that can discover, prove and fix software flaws in real-time, without any assistance. If successful, the speed of autonomy could someday blunt the structural advantages of cyber offense, according to the CGC.

Capture the Flag

The contest is being held in conjunction with DEF CON, one of the world’s largest computer security and hacking conferences. The event will consist of seven prototype automated defense systems squaring off against each other in a game of Capture the Flag.

Although it sounds like the schoolyard game played at recess, Capture the Flag is actually considered one of the ultimate test of wits in the field of computer security. Hackers and other system security experts regularly use the game, which consists of finding, proving, and fixing bugs and vulnerabilities planted in systems, to train and hone their skills.

To win, competitors have to reverse-engineer software, probe its weaknesses, search for deeply hidden flaws and create securely patched replacements. While Capture the Flag contests are regular occurrences in the cybersecurity sector, CGC will be the first such contest in which all of the contestants are computer systems.

Rise of the Machines

The CGC finalists consist of the top seven scoring teams from from the first year of the CGC. On June 3, 2015, each finalist fielded an autonomous system that found and fixed enough vulnerabilities to gain an invitation to the final event. The seven teams consist of large private sector groups, university off-shoots, startups, academic researchers, and hacker community competition veterans.

The ability of automated systems to address vulnerabilities and malware represents a major opportunity for cybersecurity. At the moment, the job of finding and fixing vulnerabilities rests entirely in human hands. As more devices become connected and attacks grow more sophisticated, the small number of people with the skills to protect computer systems is becoming increasingly overwhelmed.

While automated systems already have the speed and the scale to protect sensitive networks, they currently lack the expertise and intelligence necessary to discover, prove, and fix system vulnerabilities. If the seven prototype systems competing at CGC are able to hang with the best human experts, it will be a big step forward in automated security.
